- To book, we ask for each traveller's name and gender, and one mobile number. Gender is used only for the operator's seating rules.
- Your booking is stored with the operator who runs the trip, because they need it to let you board.
- A live link shows the bus, never you: no name, no phone number, no seat, no PNR.
- We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Each traveller's name | So the crew can check who is boarding. |
| Mobile number | To find your ticket, to send you a code before cancelling a paid booking, and so the operator can reach you about the trip. |
| Gender of each traveller | Only to apply the operator's seating rules, for example which seats a woman can take next to another passenger. It is the same rule their counter applies. You can choose "other". |
| Trip, seats and fare | To issue the ticket and apply the cancellation rule. |
| IP address and basic request logs | To keep the site running and to limit repeated lookups, so nobody can guess their way into someone else's booking. |
While BusPlease is in preview we take no payment, so we hold no card, UPI or bank details. When payments open, they will be handled by a payment gateway and this page will name it.
Who sees your booking
- The operator running your trip. The booking is made in their reservation system. Their staff and crew see your name, seats and mobile number on their passenger list and boarding chart, and the operator keeps you in their own list of passengers.
- BusPlease, as the software provider, which runs the operator's reservation system and hosts this site. Each operator's data is kept separate from every other operator's.
- Messaging providers, such as an SMS or WhatsApp sender, only to deliver a message you asked for. During the preview no messages are sent to your phone.
Other operators on BusPlease cannot see your booking.
What a live link shows, and never shows
Your ticket can give you a link to send to whoever is picking you up. Anyone who has that link can open it, so it is built to show the bus and never who is on it. It does show where the booking gets on and off.
| The live link shows | It never shows |
|---|---|
| The operator and the scheduled departure; the bus registration once the operator has shared it; the stops where the booking gets on and off, and the part of the route between them; the stops the bus has crossed; the bus position and speed while its tracker is reporting; when the tracker last reported. | Your name, mobile number, seat number, PNR or fare. |
A live link stops working when the booking is cancelled. It can be found without the link only by someone who has both the PNR and the last 4 digits of the booking phone.
Your ticket link
Your ticket has its own private link, separate from the live link. It shows your name, so treat it like the ticket itself. Phone numbers are never put in a web address on this site, and ticket pages ask search engines not to index them.
Cookies and analytics
BusPlease sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Where we count page visits, we use a privacy friendly analytics service that sets no cookies and does not identify you.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data held about your bookings, and you can withdraw consent for anything that relies on it, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 provides. Some records, such as tax records for a paid ticket, may have to be kept for as long as the law requires. See the contact page for how to ask.
How long each kind of record is kept, the name of the company responsible, and the contact for privacy requests and grievances will be published here before real bookings open.
